About the SSI Science of Diving Course
The SSI Science of Diving course is the complete theoretical foundation of certified scuba diving. Whether you want to become an instructor, a divemaster, or simply understand what happens to your body at 30 metres depth, this is the required course. Five intensive academic sessions cover everything you need to know about the physics and physiology of diving, at ALPHAMARIN Dive Center Constanța.
What you will learn
Physics of water — pressure, buoyancy, light, sound and their effects on divers
Diver physiology — effects of pressure on the human body, decompression sickness, barotrauma
Scuba equipment — operating principles, maintenance and correct selection
The underwater environment — currents, visibility, marine biotopes of the Black Sea
Advanced dive planning and gas management

In-water practical training — applying theoretical knowledge, to 30m depth
Participation requirements
SSI Open Water Diver certification (or equivalent)
Minimum age: 10 years
The SSI Science of Diving certification is required as a prerequisite for SSI professional programmes (Divemaster, Instructor) and counts as halfway towards the SSI Divemaster rating. Ideal for passionate divers who want a deep understanding of the underwater world or who are pursuing a professional diving career.
