About the SSI Navigation Course
Underwater navigation is the skill that gives you complete independence underwater — you can explore new sites, return to your entry point and lead others on dives. The SSI Navigation specialty equips you with compass techniques, natural navigation and distance estimation, essential for exploring sites in the Black Sea with ALPHAMARIN Dive Center Constanța.
What you will learn
Underwater compass navigation — direct courses, right-angle routes and return
Natural navigation — currents, geological formations, light and algae as landmarks
Distance estimation — kick cycle and dive time as navigation tools
Combined navigation techniques for complex sites
Planning and executing independent dive routes
Programme structure
5 academic sessions — complete theory via the SSI digital platform
2 navigation dives — applying techniques in the Black Sea, to 30m depth
Participation requirements
SSI Open Water Diver certification (or equivalent)
Minimum age: 10 years
The SSI Navigation specialty counts towards Advanced Open Water Diver and Master Diver ratings and is a recommended prerequisite for Search & Recovery, Wreck Diving and Dive Guide courses.
